Valuing and Amplifying IP Assets

On 10 February 2026, Tim Heberden, Managing Principal at Qantm Valuations, was featured as a speaker at the webinar hosted by the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AustCham HK).

Globally, intangible assets contribute about USD80 trillion to the market value of listed companies. Although the bulk of this value does not appear on balance sheets, IP assets play an increasing role in:

  • Funding: For growth-companies, success in raising equity is enhanced by quantifying IP value. Reliable valuations are essential for debt funding.

  • Transactions: Scenario valuations of IP assets can be pivotal to the success of M&A, joint ventures and licenses.

  • Tax & disputes: Clarity of IP economics helps structure effective and defensible multinational IP arrangements.

For each of these applications, the webinar provided an example of how IP value can be amplified. A broad overview of valuation approaches was also provided.

This event was supported by the Innovation and Technology Committee, as well as the Finance, Legal, and Tax Committee of AustCham HK.
